Hi friends. I had a question.
Can Gentoo be installed on a virtual box?

Yes, I have a running Gentoo (systemd, gnome) in Virtual Box. If you need some help, just ask in this forum, there should be plenty of help since this is pretty much the same for everyone.

aroona,

Over the years, I have installed Gentoo in VMWare, VitualBox and KVM/QEMU.
I'm aware of installs on Parallels.

Gentoo can't tell that its being run on emulated hardware. You install it for the emulated hardware, not your real hardware.

When you ask for help with a Gentoo install in a virtual machine, its important that your helpers know which virtualisation solution you are using.
They all have their own quirks.

Does the error kernel panic when booting from the life CD? If so, did you validate that you did not pick the wrong architecture (e.g. x86 instead of x86_64)?

Or does it happen when you tried to boot into your system for the first time? (in that case its often something like a wrong filesystem or so).

In any case, as Neddy already said, having the complete error message would help a lot.

If you're on Windows, you can even get WSL2 to work with Gentoo, although it's a little more difficult to set-up than a virtual machine.
