I recently emerged wine-staging with the following USE flags:
Code:

 alsa custom-cflags faudio fontconfig gcrypt gecko jpeg lcms mono ncurses nls opengl perl png pulseaudio realtime run-exes ssl (staging) threads truetype udev udisks unwind vulkan xcomposite xml -capi -cups -dos -gphoto2 -gsm -gssapi -gstreamer -kerberos -ldap -mp3 -netapi -odbc -openal -opencl -osmesa -oss -pcap -pipelight -prelink -samba -scanner -sdl (-selinux) -test -themes -v4l -vaapi -vkd3d -xinerama" ABI_X86="64 -32 (-x32)

I downloaded notepad++ 7.8.8 to try it out, but when i launch it, I get this output:
Code:

~/Downloads $ wine ./npp.7.8.8.Installer.x64.exe
0074:err:ntoskrnl:ZwLoadDriver failed to create driver L"\\Registry\\Machine\\System\\CurrentControlSet\\Services\\wineusb": c0000142
003c:fixme:service:scmdatabase_autostart_services Auto-start service L"wineusb" failed to start: 1114
00b0:err:module:__wine_process_init L"Z:\\home\\zsolti\\Downloads\\npp.7.8.8.Installer.x64.exe" not supported on this system

Is there any way to fix this issue?

Wine version:
Code:

wine-5.12

Hi shor_tyy,

Is the Windows version (including 32/64 bit) that you configured the default WINEPREFIX (~/.wine) for, supported by this installer?
Code:
winecfg

You could configure different WINEPREFIXes for different Windows versions. And launch programs (installers) indicating WINEPREFIX explicitly:
Code:
WINEPREFIX='~/.wine1' winecfg
WINEPREFIX='~/.wine2' winecfg
WINEPREFIX='~/.wine1' wine ./npp.7.8.8.Installer.x64.exe
WINEPREFIX='~/.wine2' wine ./npp.7.8.8.Installer.x64.exe
...

The installer's architecture matches wine's.

And which Windows is? I checked, my wine is configuring Win7 by default (and notepad++ may expect Win10).

Hmm... What if you try to launch it not with `wine` but with `wine64` ?

Still doesn't work:
Code:

~ $ WINEPREFIX="/home/zsolti/.wine" wine64 Downloads/npp.7.8.8.Installer.x64.exe
002c:fixme:winediag:__wine_start_process Wine Staging 5.12 is a testing version containing experimental patches.
002c:fixme:winediag:__wine_start_process Please mention your exact version when filing bug reports on winehq.org.
00b8:err:module:__wine_process_init L"D:\\Downloads\\npp.7.8.8.Installer.x64.exe" not supported on this system

But somehow the wineusb error is gone.

Interesting...

I am not sure this makes sense but I think it's worth to try:

Code:
WINEPREFIX="/home/zsolti/.wine" WINEPATH="/usr/bin/wine64" winecfg

...and after that to try to launch with wine64 again

...I'm assuming you omitted the flag "X" before "alsa" here:

Sorry, the X flag is there, I just forgot to select it.

Funny(?) enough, the problem is probably lack of proper 32-bit support in Wine, which the installer requires.

You might like to try the not-installer downloads instead (the 7z package for example).

Hi Chiitoo,

Chiitoo wrote:

Could it be related with this:
shor_tyy wrote:

My wine-vanilla-4.21, at which I am stick now, shows
Code:
ABI_X86="32 64 (-x32)"

despite the fact that there is no "abi_x86_32" for wine-vanilla in package.use.

Or am I missing what you mean?

( I don't understand why there are two "32": just "32" and "x32" )

Edited: wine version.

Looks like the problem was indeed, the lack of 32 bit binaries. Thank you for your help!

Indeed.

Perhaps you have set 'ABI_X86' globally in 'make.conf' instead?

For the differences, perhaps check a look in: whats the difference between abi_x86_32 and abi_x86_x32?

I'm glad it was just that!

Thanks, I got it!

Chiitoo wrote:

That's all I have:
Code:

root !689 :~ # grep -i abi /etc/portage/make.conf
root !690 :~ # grep -r wine /etc/portage/package.use/ | grep -i abi
/etc/portage/package.use/main:app-emulation/wine-gecko abi_x86_32
root !691 :~ #

And my emerge shows abi_x86_32 (not x32) for wine-staging-5.12 by default:
Code:
[ebuild  N    ~] app-emulation/wine-staging-5.12:5.12::gentoo  USE="X alsa cups faudio fontconfig gcrypt gecko jpeg lcms mono ncurses nls opengl perl png realtime run-exes samba ssl (staging) threads truetype unwind xcomposite xml -capi -custom-cflags -dos -gphoto2 -gsm -gssapi -gstreamer -kerberos -ldap -mp3 -netapi -odbc -openal -opencl -osmesa -oss -pcap -pipelight -prelink -pulseaudio -scanner -sdl (-selinux) -test -themes -udev -udisks -v4l -vaapi -vkd3d -vulkan -xinerama" ABI_X86="32 64 (-x32)" 33 042 KiB
