I have -clang and -llvm set as USE flags but that doesn't seem to make any difference:

]% emerge -pv firefox

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Is this expected behaviour? Googling doesn't give me any clear answers, I just find people attempting to build Firefox with llvm/clang, which makes me wonder what's wrong here since that's what I don't want...

Note that stable or ~arch makes absolutely no difference here.

emerge --tree seems to suggest it's a direct dependency of Firefox, then why bother with a "clang" use flag? All I could find was that Mozilla switched the default compiler, but that there would be support for GCC, did they change their minds and ditch GCC? Or is this a problem/policy on Gentoo's side?

emerge --info for completeness' sake:

Ah thank you, that explains why Rust didn't explicitly pull in llvm. Certainly does suck, building llvm takes forever even on a decent system, and chromium is just as horrible.

Might need to figure out a way to use packages since all modern browsers appear to just be massive piles of bloat :(

is the build host machine not ideal for building these packages self, then www-client/firefox-bin is a good alternative :)
