Hello all, I've installed Gentoo more than once on desktop computers in the past, now I'd like to do it on a new laptop I plan to buy, but I have a specific requirement I'd like to ask for help here.

I'm looking for a laptop capable of issuing beeps during boot, like do desktops via the so called internal speaker or PC speaker. Since I'm visually empaired, such feature makes things easier for me, as I can set up a boot loader like grub to play a beep as soon as it displays a menu to choose one of several systems I can keep installed on the machine.

My current laptop, which is a Dell Inspiron, is able to beep through its integrated soundcard whenever it detects a hardware fault, but I cannot make it beep whenever I want, neither from within Linux (by issuing some command such as "tput bel"), nor booting from a llive image prepared to issue a beep when it starts booting, such as the Slint distribution, as explained in this document:
http://slackware.uk/slint/x86_64/slint-14.2.1/doc/Accessibility/Accessibility

After asking elsewhere, I've been told that Lenovo laptops are fine in this regard, they can beep through their integrated soundcard on demand. In any case, I'd like to know about other brands such as HP and Acer, which are easily found in Brazil. Could anyone test and report results please?

Greetings,

did not know that grub is capable of a beep before. tested it now on a DELL Latitude E5420 and it beeped once grub was displayed.

Just as a contribution, I've found an interesting way of searching for such a machine. If you type the below search string at Google, it returns a lot of potential machines:
beep site:https://linux-hardware.org/

I won't use DuckDuckGo because they seem to want to pepper the internet with native advertising
