+1 for Evince. I use it for its text searching feature, and because it reloads the file when it's been changed. Good for doing LaTeX work.

+1 for Atril, but when annotating pdf files I prefer Xournal++

For some more involved activities (either forms or quirky datasheets...) Master PDF Editor works quite well and its in portage

I use Masterpdf editor daily. I find it very useful and straightforward. In some tools better than Acrobat itself. Unfortunately it seems its development isn't as active as it should. I asked for a lot of simples patches and they didn't deliver it. For example, when writing in portuguese I can't use the needed symbols... ç é á ã, etc.

I have used both LibreofficeDraw and app-text/master-pdf-editor
The second has a lot of functionality and it is easy to install.

:D

I have NEVER been able to get Draw to play nice with pdfs. 99.9 percent of the time it opens them as raw text files. I gave up.

I use qpdfview. It's very light weight.

As others have pointed out, the text selection and copy etc is a little unintuitive. Basically you have to enter Ctrl-C which then allows test to be selected and brings up a dialog for copy etc.

I use Atril. Simple, just works.

What does Atril bring to the table over Evince, from which it was forked. I'm happy with Evince, but I noticed that Atril is light on dependencies.

As for dependencies, I've noticed there isn't even a gtk+ reference.
So I may be wrong but I would not deduce much from them.

     Mon Jun 29 06:08:08 2020 >>> dev-util/gtk-doc-1.32-r1
Thks 4 ur attention, interest & support

Both Okular and Evince use Poppler, but Okular uses poppler[qt5] whereas Evince uses poppler[cairo]. Okular does not render vector graphics in PDFs as well as Evince. It is possible to patch Poppler to use the Cairo backend, though:

https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-1101988.html

Paul Gideon Dann’s patchset for Poppler to enable Okular (Qt5) to use Cairo rather than Splash to render PDF files

But I don't bother; I just just another PDF reader (see my earlier post).

Atril, but just because it came with Mate and is adequate for my needs. For the record, I had multiple readers on Windows and found the one bundled with (H&R Block ?) tax sofyware the best without having bundled potential spyware.
I don't create pdf's. I just read a print them. Atril does both very well.
