... is that none seems to give the admin (root) a way to limit which x or wayland session a user is able to pick up on login. I found myself needing this feature from my login manager is because I use and test experimental DEs and WMs quite often. So I'd like to limit others on this PC to the few stable choices I have installed (mainly xfce).

Currently the best I can think of is to use a modified theme for sddm which doesn't give a option to choose the session, but that limits my sessions to one too. I also need a multi-seat capable manager so I think I really don't have much of a choice here.

I think the design of (most?) login managers is flawed because only after succesfull login should a user be able to choose the desktop session. And that way it could be easy to limit which sessions a user is able to start.
