Hello I'm getting this weird issue(trying to install gentoo for the first time). I just reached the 'chrooting' stage. I got to a certain point installing inside a VM but decided to get some sleep and my machine powered down overnight so I'm unsure how much was saved to the VM, I don't know if that's related to this issue or not. Any help would be appreciated, thank you.

Code:
(chroot) livecd /# mount /dev/sda2 /boot
mount: /boot: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sda2, missing codepage or helper program, or other error.

Welcome to Gentoo!

Did you create a filesystem on /dev/sda2 ?
To see current status of sda2 use
Code:
file -s /dev/sda2

When I run that it says:

Code:

/dev/sda: DOS/MBR boot sector; partition 1 : ID=0xee, start-CHS (0x0,0,1), end-CHS (0x3ff,254,63), startsector 1, 42213731 sectors, extended partition table (last)
[/code]

You need to create a filesystem on it before you can mount it.

You do not need to repeat all the steps you did before your computer was restarted. You need to make sure, though, that all steps are completed before you can move forward. So open the Handbook and after verifying previous steps carry on. I suggest you keep a log of your activities, so when you take a break next time you will know exactly where you stopped.

Okay thank you. I reformatted sda2 and sda4 into FAT32, what steps do I need to repeat from this point?

mojave,

All steps are described in Gentoo installation Handbook.
Note, Gentoo is DIY Linux, it is you and your computer. We can help if you get stuck, but we are not there watching over your shoulder. It is you who must decide what you do and how you do it. BTW, you cannot install Linux on FAT32.
