Hi,

I've already checked all my partage configuration files, but I could not find the cause for the below behavior. Obviously I miss something.

Portage automatically installs masked packages.
E.g. media-libs/mlt-6.16.0-r1:

Code:
pcgrz-gentoo /etc/portage # emerge -pv media-libs/mlt

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies... done!
[ebuild   R    ] media-libs/mlt-6.16.0-r1::gentoo  USE="ffmpeg fftw frei0r gtk jack kdenlive libsamplerate lua melt opengl python qt5 rtaudio ruby sdl xine xml -compressed-lumas -debug -libav (-opencv) (-vdpau) -vidstab" CPU_FLAGS_X86="mmx sse sse2" PYTHON_SINGLE_TARGET="python3_6 -python2_7 (-python3_7)" PYTHON_TARGETS="python2_7 python3_6 (-python3_7)" 0 KiB

Total: 1 package (1 reinstall), Size of downloads: 0 KiB

According packages.gentoo.org mlt-6.16.0-r1 is still masked.
The most recent released version is mlt-6.12.0.
So I would expect emerge to use this version instead of mlt-6.16.0-r1.
I'm not aware that I unmasked any version of this package.

Can anyone tell me why emerge pulls in mlt-6.16.0-r1 instead of mlt-6.12.0?

Thanks a lot
Alex

ahlx,

Code:
eix media-libs/mlt
* media-libs/mlt
     Available versions:  6.16.0-r1 (~)6.16.0-r2

So 6.16.0-r1 is stable and 6.16.0-r2 is testing.
mlt-6.12.0 has been removed from the repo.

It looks like packages.gentoo.org is out of date.

Portage should never do this. It may, if you have not disabled --autounmask (which you should disable), offer to help you install a masked package. However, your output does not indicate that this is the case here.

According to your local tree, it is not masked. Why are you using packages.gentoo.org when you have a current local tree available?

So I would expect emerge to use this version instead of mlt-6.16.0-r1.
Portage always uses the highest allowed version of a package. 6.16.0-r1 is higher, and apparently allowed, so it is picked.

Ok, thanks guys.

I wasn't aware that packages.gentoo.org isn't up to date.
