(1) When I do

Code:
sudo ln -sf /usr/src/linux-5.4.48-gentoo /usr/src/linux

the symlink is not established, but when I do

Code:
eselect kernel list
eselect kernel set kernel-number

it is.

Is that because I did NOT switch to root and used sudo instead ?

(2) Do I have to use --lvm when generating an initramfs even when not using lvm ?

Quote from the wiki:

Quote:
The following example will build only an initramfs (not an entire kernel) and enable support for luks.
Even if you don't use lvm, `--lvm' option is required to include necessary udev rules.
genkernel --luks --lvm initramfs

I have encrypted my disk, but I do not use lvm...

Let me answer the second question:

I guess you read https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Dm-crypt_full_disk_encryption#Genkernel -- this article is out of date. I removed that paragraph. If you do not use LVM, you do not need to enable LVM support in genkernel.

Is this also a potential error:

In the wiki it says;

Quote:
It is recommended genkernel.conf is updated to contains the following code:

FILE /etc/genkernel.conf
# Add in early microcode support
MICROCODE="yes"

but in the /etc/genkernel.conf it says:

Quote:
# Possible values: empty/"no", "all", "intel", "amd"
