I am trying to install Gentoo Prefix on my Windows 7 machine. I followed the instructions about the patched cygwin1.dll and it's seems ok until it's time to compile bison. The scripts stops and prints out :
Code:
checking for unistd.h... yes
checking minix/config.h usability... no
checking minix/config.h presence... no
checking for minix/config.h... no
checking whether it is safe to define __EXTENSIONS__... no
configure: error: cannot compile a simple C program
See `config.log' for more details.

Hi Petross404
it's not only bison which does not compile, from your log the issue looks a little bit complex...

First, looks like the bootstrap script fails in "emerging" both libressl (which is not fatal, looking at the script) and bison. The script tries out several versions, but all versions fail in the "configure" phase:

What happens if you try to manually compile a "simple C program" yourself? (see here for an example)

I guess gcc is working inside cygwin. Maybe wrong CFLAGS or other parameters are being passed?

This is happening to me. I ran the test to make sure the C compiler works, and it does. But when I try to run the prefix bootstrap in cygwin it stops at stage1 because "C compiler cannot create executables"

I don't know anything about the prefix project other than what the blurb says it is, but I have seen the "cannot create executables" error when trying to build one or two packages with gcc-8.3/lto which do build with 8.2.

Fix whatever problem is causing your C compiler not to create executables. As you have not provided any output from the failure, we cannot help you determine why it is not working. Often, you will find the immediate explanation in config.log.

This is pasted from config.log, but I need some help interpreting the problem and finding a solution.

This file contains any messages produced by compilers while
running configure, to aid debugging if configure makes a mistake.

It was created by GNU make configure 4.2.1, which was
generated by GNU Autoconf 2.69. Invocation command line was

$ ./configure --host=x86_64-pc-cygwin --prefix=/home/DanielWilson/gentoo/tmp/usr --mandir=/home/DanielWilson/gentoo/tmp/usr/share/man --infodir=/home/DanielWilson/gentoo/tmp/usr/share/info --datadir=/home/DanielWilson/gentoo/tmp/usr/share --sysconfdir=/home/DanielWilson/gentoo/tmp/etc --localstatedir=/home/DanielWilson/gentoo/tmp/var/lib --build=x86_64-pc-cygwin
