I've just installed a gentoo live image as a guest OS in a windows 10 virtualbox OS on a dell 3491 laptop. World updated, plasma configuration almost untouched, everything works very well apart the audio which emits no sound.
Here a few checkes:

Quote:
osboxes /home/fulvio # lspci |grep -i audio

Alsamixer is set to 100, Pulsaudio is configured and is seen by kde, virtualbox guest additions are installed.

Any suggestion to further investigate to find a fix?
Thanks in advance,
Fulvio

Hi
In the VM please run
Code:

lspci -v | grep -i audio

to see the emulated sound card VBox assigned to your VM.Probably Intel.
Then check
Code:

lspci -v | grep -i driver

Maybe you should see something like
Code:

Kernel driver in use: snd_hda_intel

If not then you are missing drivers.
Also run "dmesg" and try to locate any issues.

Thanks a lot for the hint, the second command returned a list of kernel driver without any audio driver.
I then compiled the kernel adding the audio driver and now it works well.
This is the result of lspci for the drivers now:

Code:
fulvio@osboxes ~ $ lspci -v | grep -i driver
        Kernel driver in use: ata_piix
        Kernel driver in use: vboxvideo
        Kernel driver in use: e1000
        Kernel driver in use: vboxguest
        Kernel driver in use: snd_intel8x0
        Kernel driver in use: ohci-pci
        Kernel driver in use: piix4_smbus
        Kernel driver in use: ahci

Problem solved.
Regards,
Fulvio
