When I was a young teen, the first thing I would do when I got off the school bus was run to the TV so I would not miss Dr. Who. I only had a few minutes and I wanted to be seated and watch the opening music and "swirling into the tube" intro which set the atmosphere for a good science-fiction episode.

Tom Baker was The Doctor then, long scarf, curly mop hair,jelly-babies, and all that. It made for a unique character. I still laugh when The Doctor offered Davros (creator of the Daleks) a jelly-baby who scowled at it in disgust. Although the special effects were hokey --an American word meaning "notoriously contrived", the writing was excellent in part due to Douglas Adams who wrote "Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy".

After graduating high school I became too busy to watch it anymore. Fast-forward to the David Tennant times. The episodes were still intriguing but I noticed they made sure obeisance was made to the Diversity Nazis. The women are portrayed as strong, brave, and fearless (unrealistic) with a hint or nod towards lesbianism. Blacks are shown as good, valiant, and heroic. You rarely see a criminal character who is black because although the majority of crimes in the USA (and maybe Britain) are committed by black people, to show them the way they really are would be, in their stupid Politically Correct minds, as insensitive or stereotyping. So, all the criminals have to be white and often the main character, if a white male, is shown to be a bumbling and incompetent fool who only succeeds because the women and blacks helped him.

Many movies and TV shows are now too stupid to watch anymore because of the pandering to feminist hogwash ideology, the praise and adoration of homosexuality (no man wants his son to become a prancing f*ggit getting banged up the bahootey), and the inserting here and there the constant drumbeat that Capitalism is bad, Global Warming is true, White Christian males are bad and bigoted, all black people are good and benevolent, that women are powerful and smart and better than everyone else, and many more talking points of the leftist so-called progressive American Democratic party and British Labour Party.

Because of my disgust, last year I canceled cable TV and do not watch it anymore. I also have by and large stopped reading literature because the same filth and bilge has permeated that medium as well, the author preaching to me that my white, Christian conservative values are bad. Well then, I'll just not buy such books so I don't.

I saw the movie Joker last year and I liked it. The story was good and the producer, despite the caterwauling of the sleazy American "progressives", did not use the movie to preach politics to people. There were black people in the film but they were realistic characters, not put in there as an overture to the Diversity Gestapo.

It is ridiculous that a group of people (I'd like to find and smash them) have determined that every book published must be like Harper Lee to preach to everyone. Every film must be propaganda first, leftist/progressive talking points high on the list too, with storytelling somewhere near the bottom.

Hence a movie like "A Wrinkle in Time" based on the fantastic story by Madelaine L'Engle was turned into a pile of trash because "they" were determined to have a black woman produce the movie. As predicted, the focus being on Diversity instead of just telling a good story ruined it and the movie flopped at the box office. I refused to see it because when I read the producer's statement "You must see this to support Diversity" I knew it was going be garbage like most of the other garbage falling out of the overflowing dumpster that is the current state of Literature and Movie production these days.

There, I've said my piece. To get my creativity fix I have consigned myself to reading the old Classics such as "The Catbird Seat" by James Thurber. THAT would never get put into a movie and probably not published these days because it portrays a woman as a loud-mouthed harridan who has no idea how to run a business organization efficiently.

Thing is, the episode was ok, getting back to classic Dr Who ... the "black female timelord" wasn't even controversial and why should it. reasonable actress playing the role. HOWEVER in their quest for virtue signalling they just shat on the entire history... for this black Dr to be in the past destroys the very 1st episode and the 1st series where the doctor ran away. All this for diversity... if the only way the woke crowd can be diverse is by destroying everything simply to tick a box well... Remember when there was female heroes (Ripley) and noone battered an eyelid BECAUSE it all hung together, remember when there was black superheroes (Wesley Snipes and blade) and noone battered an eyelid BECAUSE it all hung together. These days the message is more important than the story & the lore.

I look forward to the BBC becoming a subscription service

++ Indeed and that's the thing, if the BBC introduce a black/female/lesbian character, it's most likely for general wokeness - there's nothing wrong with said character if it fits.

I mean I've never really been a follower, watched it from Tom Baker a bit & even I know that's broken continuity.

Oh and on this point, it's looking more likely - I'm seeing lots of voices speaking up now.

As for me, it ends next month - ain't renewing.

Consider two "recent" periods of time. The effort to achieve diversity based on merit. This was mostly a solved problem in the first world. There was little left to do that could solve systemic problems. Or if you prefer, some variation of the 80/20 rule. The last 20% is the most difficult. So when there was very little left to complain about systemically, people caught woke-sickness (mob mentality), which at its most basic level is about tearing down merit (equality of outcome) and rewriting / vandalizing history (temper tantrum). I keep waiting for the collective 2 y/o to pass out from holding its breath. *sigh*

Season 12 Episode 5: The Doctor says "The Doctor never uses weapons!"

Season 12 Episode 6: The Doctor furiously swings baseball bat around at assailants.

Ok - so old JB he doesn't really watch this (and can't since he's no longer funding the BBC), but I'm hearing rumours that the latest episode has taken an epic level dump over continuity ?
