I went through the standard Handbook drill, with manual kernel config. My /boot partition is maintained by another Linux distro. After booting gentoo, no /dev/sd? devices were found. Apparently I missed something in the kernel config.

Do I need to go through the entire drill again, or is there some quicker way to rebuild the kernel?

nhazadian,

Chroot into your gentoo. Do not make any partitions, Do not make any filesystems.

Mount things as per the handbook, chroot following the handbook.
Your Gentoo is safe and sound, just as you left it.

mount up the partitions, and chroot back into the install, from there you can go back to make menuconfig and add what you need, make/make modules_install/copy over the new kernel to /boot, exit the chroot, unmount everything and reboot, and hopefully it should be working...

one thing you could try is lspci -k after booting up the livecd and seeing which modules it loaded, it might give you a hint as to what you're missing.

cheers

Thanks Neddy. Hopefully Monday I'll have a chance to give it a go.
