Watching my children and their friends using phones, tablets and computers but rarely televisions to watch videos, I recognize that much has changed since I first used mythtv to watch recorded over the air television.

How are you watching videos now? Do you even still have DVDs and Blu-Rays?

Until very recently I had DVDs but not anymore but I prefer watching it on a bigger screen than available on a laptop or phone screen.

All videos are exclusively streamed.

With a little salt and pepper, the tape does tend to stick in me teeth mind.

Amazon Prime, Netflix, and premium cable channels (HBO, Cinemax, Showtime, Encore, & NGN). I buy Blu-rays for films I loves, and previously would buy DVDs and before that VHS tapes.

My main desktop has a 34" ultra wide monitor (2560 x 1080) so I'll occasionally watch movies on that, but in general I'll run a laptop/tablet through a proper TV to watch with my family.

I'm watching less and less actual TV and premium cable channel these days and tend to just watch online streams and the odd Blu-ray.

The nice thing about my main TV setup is the surround sound system. Come handegg season, I'm in that sound field a few days a week.

Normally through Roku / TV, though more recently laptop. I gave up pay TV a number of years back, and I mostly didn't miss it. I liked having local news / weather, so I'm missing that a bit, but will see if I do long term.

Phones and tablets are just too small for the content I watch. They may be suitable for junk youube type video, but for movies or shows, they just don't have the screen size to show the content.

I prefer to have a copy available to watch at my offline convenience, and no one seems willing to support that, so I'm not sure I'm wiling to support the industry. Given that so little is worth watching these days, and my increasing unwillingness to support political agendas with my entertainment dollars, I'm phasing out a lot of video content. Although I prefer the theater sized screen and sound for many movies, I've gotten out of the habit of going, and people are rude, so they ruin the experience.

I've got a keyboard shortcut that does "mpv ytdl://$(xclip -o)". Probably one of the worst things I've ever inflicted on myself, it works far too well.

first, put up a screen and pre-heat the projector. I close the blinds, turn light on, spool in the film turn lights off and start the movie. Beware! Never stop the movie! The film might burn!

No, not even for that most fascinating closeup! I know, you might recognize that dog's appendage from another movie. Don't!
